gone to soon

gone to soon

I met you some 500 miles away from home
you were with your crew but you approached me alone.
you told me your name and we talked for a few,
and you told me your ship was leaving in the next day or two.
I located your ship, the Saipan was its name
my intensions were to get to know you
but I didnt know if you felt the same..
It was a letter that I sent you
not knowing what to expect,
but a week later on my machine was a message that you left.
We talked for a few months, anxiously wanting to meet again
so we set a date and I drove down to virginia with my firend.
Im a northern girl, I am so different from he.
I was afraid that when we met he wouldn't have feelings for me.
When I saw him after those months had past
II looked him in the eyes and knew I wanted it to last.
The way he smiled at me I knew he felt it too
we were both scared to open up
for our days were so few.
Hes leaving now for a 6 month deployment at sea
and I cant even kiss him goodbye because he lives so far from me.
I falling for this sailor and its breaking my heart
for I know this time frame will tear us apart.
I want to tell him just how much I am feeling
but then I ask myself, Is it even worth revealing?
The time and the distance is far too strong
its just so sad to give up on love after youve waited so long...
